Therese holding a rosary (July 1896).

She has already been sick for several months. The lily that she will hold in the next photograph is lying on the ground.

Saint Thérèse holding a lily (taken immediately after above photo.) Taken in July, 1896. Thérèse had already been sick for several months.

Celine, who took the photograph, instructed Therese to "put on the the expression she had in the picture the photographer took of the two of us when she was eight." Once this pose was made, Celine snapped the photo, without thought for the way the habit fell, etc. This led Mother Agnes to want to destroy this print.
