Welcome!
Dear
friend of Carmel,
It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to this simple Retreat Centre,
the home of the Discalced Carmelite Friars.
Whether your stay with our community here is brief, or you have the opportunity
to retreat with us for some days, we hope that your stay with us will be as
prayerful and as rewarding as possible.
If you need anything during your stay please ask one of the friars. We don’t
want you going to bed cold or hungry.
As a Carmelite community following in the footsteps of the early hermits on
Mount Carmel, and the teachings and inspiration of St Teresa of Jesus and St
John of the Cross, we aim to offer the witness of our own experience of prayer
to those who desire to share it. We are a community that is both contemplative
and apostolic. The contemplative, in St Teresa’s vision, must not seek to evade
the difficulties of life or the needs of others.
In this house we attempt to provide a setting that is helpful to keeping alive
the remembrance of God. But prayer takes time. Give yourself space and make
use of our space to open your life to the God who dwells within you.
Please feel free to roam over the farm and paddocks. A map of the walking tracks
is in this folder. Copies are also available from the Office. Just leave the
gates the way you find them. There are birds in the aviary, ducks, geese &
other waterbirds in the dams and quiet horses and cattle in the fields.
We hope your stay will be a peaceful, prayerful and restful one.
With prayerful best wishes,
The Discalced Carmelite Community of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Priory
