Friars The Carmelite Friars have their origins in a group of hermits that gathered on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land in the late twelfth century. Reformed by St Teresa of Jesus, the Discalced Carmelite Friars (priests and brothers) arrived in Australia in 1948. Nuns

The Carmelite Nuns are the best known branch of the Order, even though they live an enclosed life. There are some 12,000 Carmelite Nuns world-wide; in our Australian region, there are 7 Carmelite Monasteries in Australia, 2 in New Zealand, 1 each in Samoa & Papua New Guinea. Secular Carmelites

Secular Carmelites

Our Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCDS) has communities in Brisbane, Sydney (Dulwich Hill and Varroville), Melbourne, Hobart, Perth, plus Lismore (NSW), Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch (NZ) and Apia, Samoa.
